The rear of the memorial is a red brick wall in front of which is a small bell tower made of steel, corrugated iron and wire mesh set on a paved court. A cross in the red brick wall is formed by white bricks. In front of the wall is a paved court flanked by hedges on east and west sides.  At the front of the paved area and on either side is a flagpole. Between the flagpoles is a boulder set on the pavement.

The bell in the bell tower was relocated from the school in Second Street in the late 1980's.  Known as the Olney Bell it is named after Flying Officer Olney, a RAAF officer who served in the Katherine area during World War II and who was killed in an aircraft crash at South Goulburn Island.
