In 1998 the memorial was moved a few metres to the south and a new memorial was erected on the site it vacated. In 1999 a small concrete slab was added at the front of the old memorial and beneath it was buried a sealed flare canister containing the names of all financial members of the Tennant Creek RSL Sub-Branch in 1999 and a history of the club.  The canister is to be opened on Anzac Day 2025. The old memorial is a white-painted block and in front of it are two bombs, standing on end.   In front of the bombs is an artillery piece.
