The memorial is a stone obelisk on a stone base. The monument is surmounted by a stone ball. The area around the memorial is paved with brick and bordered by garden beds.  A Christian cross is outlined in lighter coloured brick in the paving on the south east side and there is a flagpole on the north west side.

The memorial was constructed in March 2001 and stands on the site of the old public school.
