The memorial is a series of information boards under thatched shelters along a walk and cycle way beside Gribble Creek. The beginning of the track is marked by two boulders at the first shelter.

The boards describe events along the Kokoda Track in New Guinea in 1942 when Australian troops stopped the Japanese advance upon Port Moresby.
