The townsite of Kanowna is about 18 km NE of Kalgoorlie-Boulder. Gold was discovered there in 1893 and population rose to 12,000 in 1905. The gold was mined out and by 1952 the town was abandoned. Only ruins now remain.
The memorial is a carved and polished wooden board.
The names are from World War I.
