The memorial is a grey granite obelisk on a 3-stepped concrete base set on a circular concrete red-painted dais. There are 4 sets of two steps leading up to the dais. The whole is surrounded by a wire and steel fence with concrete posts.
It originally stood at the corner of the two main streets in front of the post office. It was unveiled on Sunday 3 August 1924 by Senator Major General Cox assisted by Mr B. J. Doe, M.L.A. and others in front of a crowd of about 300. Mr Downs, Treasurer of the Memorial Committee, said the falling of the flag from the memorial drew the veil over the activities of the Darling Empire League which during the past 10 years had been the responsible centre of the patriotic efforts of the West and which might claim the memorial as the coping stone of their work.
The monument cost about £600, was made by W. Larcombe &
Sons of Sydney and Dubbo and was erected by Vernan Larcombe.
