The swimming pool was erected in 1962 for a cost of £70,000 of which about £18,000 was raised by local subscription, highlighted by the Back to Cobar Week held in May 1959. Loans for some of the costs involved were underwritten by Cobar Mines Pty Ltd and the Cobar Memorial Services Club .
